“All human life, all life, depends on plants,” says Jonathan Drori in his TED talk about the Millenium Seed Bank. This project involves collecting seeds in an underground storage facility strong enough to withstand a nuclear attack. It holds over 2 billion seeds, which represent over 10% of the world’s variety of plants.
Mama Bear Saves Woman From Starving Wolf
Joanne Barnaby was deep in the Canadian wilderness hunting wild mushrooms when she heard the growl of a wolf. She turned to see her dog facing off with a big black wolf. The wolf looked skinny and hungry, but was still twice the size of her dog.
Robot Rights
A mother and her six children were accused of killing a five-year-old boy in Savigny, France in 1457. The mother and children were brought before a court to answer for their crimes. The mother was found guilty and sentenced to death by hanging, but her children were freed. Although the six children had blood on them, no one had witnessed them attacking the 5-year-old boy. It was a standard court case with villagers who had witnessed the crime, a defense attorney, prosecutors, and a judge. The only unusual thing was that the mother who was sentenced to death was a pig, and her six children were piglets.
Walk Your Way To Health And Happiness
Einstein once said, “Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better.” Philosophers and scientists from Aristotle to Einstein have known throughout history that walking in nature can boost creativity. When we walk, our heart rate increases, pumping blood and oxygen into our brains. The rhythm of our feet stimulates our minds. And because walking requires little mental energy, our thoughts are free to wander in new and creative ways.
Man Dies And Elephants Travel To His Funeral
Have you ever thought about what happens to zoo animals during times of war? Most of us don’t think about innocent animal casualties. But thankfully, one South African man – Lawrence Anthony – did. When the US military invaded Baghdad in 2003, Anthony did what most people would never be brave enough to do. He ran into a war zone instead of out of it, all because of his love for animals.
Is This Art?
Pierre Brassau burst upon the art world at a Swedish art show in 1964. The critics were nearly unanimous in their glowing reviews. Newspaper art critic Rolf Anderberg gushed over the paintings of the unknown French artist. He wrote, “Pierre Brassau paints with powerful strokes, but also with clear determination. His brush strokes twist with furious fastidiousness. Pierre is an artist who performs with the delicacy of a ballet dancer.”
We Are All Made Of Stars
We may not like thinking about it, but we are all on a limited journey on this earth. Regardless of what you believe happens after death, you will leave a body behind. While burial beneath the ground and cremation are the most popular ways to go, some people are literally and metaphorically thinking outside the box. One company will have your remains turned into a diamond. For between $5,000 and $22,000, they will take the carbon from your ashes and compress it under high heat and pressure in a machine. After three weeks, a diamond will be created. Family members will sometimes have these diamonds turned into rings and wear them. One Swiss company churns out 800 to 900 of these human diamonds a year.
Idiom: A Dog Eat Dog World?
When we think of the animal kingdom, some of us imagine ferocious beasts hunting their prey. Wild animals constantly at odds with each other in a survival of the fittest may be the norm, but it’s not always a dog eat dog world. Sometimes unlikely friendships form between surprisingly different types of animals.
