This Home Was Built by a Robot and It Can Stop a Machine Gun
be on board with something: to agree with or support an idea, plan, or decision
A giant robot in California just printed a house out of concrete in 24 days. The company 4Dify is building five homes in Yuba County using massive 3D printers that lay down concrete one layer at a time. The first home is already on the market for $375,000.
That price is below the area’s average of $450,000. But look closer. At $375 per square foot, it actually costs more than most homes in the county. The real value is in what you get. Founder Nan Lin says the concrete walls are bulletproof. His team tested them against handguns and machine guns. The thick walls also cut energy bills costs in half. Insurance is also cheaper because concrete doesn’t burn, termites can’t eat it, and mold doesn’t grow on it.
A crew of just five people can print 10 to 12 houses a year. Each one saves about two months compared to traditional building. Lin expects the next homes to take only 10 days to print.
California is not the first to try this. A Texas company called Icon already has over 200 printed homes across five states. Their Wolf Ranch community has 100 houses, making it the largest 3D-printed neighborhood in the world.
Not everyone is on board with the idea yet. But when the walls can stop a machine gun and your energy bill drops by half, a robot-built home starts to sound less like science fiction and more like common sense.

Origin
This expression comes from the idea of physically being on a ship or vehicle. If you are “on board,” you are part of the journey. Over time, it came to mean that you support an idea and are ready to move forward with it.
