People Love Smashing Printers and Will Pay To Do It
blow off steam: to do something to relieve stress or frustration
Do you ever feel so frustrated that you want to smash something? If so, you’re not alone. People are even spending money to break things with hammers! These people meet in places called “smash rooms.” Here, they break all kinds of stuff, including electronics.
In one San Francisco smash room, people pay $120 for 30 minutes of unrestrained destruction. And the favorite target of their rage is printers.
Why printers? Well, many reasons. Printers often run out of ink or inexplicably stop working. Some users feel a sense of revenge when they smash a printer that has caused them trouble. This activity is also seen as a fun way to blow off steam.
But breaking printers and other electronics is not always safe. The chemicals and gases inside these machines can be harmful. That’s why some local governments are now stopping smash rooms from breaking electronics.
This is causing trouble for smash room owners. One owner in Los Angeles stopped offering printers and started offering plates and furniture instead.
