Can You Trust a Robot Dentist?
brace yourself: prepare for something difficult or unpleasant
Brace yourself—just when you thought going to the dentist couldn’t get any scarier, a robot is now holding the drill. A robot dentist has performed a human dental procedure for the first time. This is not a robot controlled remotely by a dentist. This robot is controlled by AI. It was created by a company called Perceptive. It first scans your teeth and gums with a 3-D technology that has more than twice the accuracy of harmful X-rays. After the scan, the robot does the procedure and finishes it in just 15 minutes. The company says this procedure would take a human dentist 2 hours.
This new technology could make trips to the dentist quicker and less painful. However, some people might still be nervous about trusting a robot to do the job.
