The Skydiving Beavers of Idaho
capture someone’s imagination: to attract and hold someone’s interest or curiosity
In the late 1940s, Idaho faced a unique ecological problem. There were too many beavers in some areas, causing trouble for people living there. Moving the beavers by truck and horse was expensive, and the stress on the beavers resulted in a high death rate. Idaho’s Fish and Game Department found a creative solution. They decided to move these beavers to new homes using parachutes.
This operation involved putting beavers in special boxes and dropping them from planes into the wilderness. The plan worked well, and the beavers were able to start new lives in a new natural habitat away from humans.
Years later, people discovered a film showing these parachuting beavers. This film was shared on YouTube and quickly captured the public’s imagination.
