If GRU selects you, you must pay a deposit of $250,000 or $1 million. The final price of a stay has not been set yet. GRU says it will likely cost more than $10 million. Your deposit can be refunded after 30 days, but the application fee is gone forever. GRU may also ask for medical and financial information to prove you are able to travel.
The company has shared a bold timeline. It plans to review applications in 2026. A construction mission will reach the Moon in 2029. By 2031, GRU hopes to build the hotel and begin astronaut training. After all of that, the first guests will finally arrive.
Only twelve humans have ever walked on the Moon, and that was over fifty years ago. On its website, GRU tells applicants they will cement their legacy by joining the select few. It is a grand promise from a company that has not built anything on the Moon yet. The website does not mention any past space missions or experience. It does, however, have a very clear payment page. Perhaps the real question is not whether the hotel will be built, but how many people will pay ten thousand dollars before they find out.
