Do All Maps Lie?
enthusiast: a person who is very interested in a particular activity or subject
Map enthusiast and author Frank Jacobs writes that “All Maps Lie.” He explains that maps show different things depending on who makes them. He compares two maps from the 1950s. One map shows Communism as a huge problem spreading everywhere. The other map shows the Soviet Union and its friends being attacked from the outside. These maps show the same thing but in very different ways. Jacobs says that maps are always a bit dishonest because the person who makes the map chooses what to show and what to leave out.
