Boy Breaks Rare 3,500-Year-Old Jar Inside Museum
face the music: to experience the consequences or punishment for something you have done
In recent news, a four-year-old boy visiting a museum in Israel broke a piece of pottery that is 3,500 years old. The ancient jar was not protected by glass when the little boy tipped it over to see what was inside. The museum has said they plan to restore the jar and put it back unprotected near the door of the museum. Understanding it was an accident, they have invited the boy and his family to return to the museum for a guided tour.
In contrast to the boy’s accident, two men in Nevada made a deliberate choice that led to the destruction of something equally irreplaceable. Wyatt Clifford Fain, 37, and Payden David Guy Cosper, 31, have been accused of destroying a sandstone rock formation in a national park. A video of their inexplicable destruction went viral on social media this past April. In the video, a bystander can be heard exclaiming, “But, why?” They will now have to face the music for damaging federal property. If found guilty in court, they could spend up to 10 years in prison.
