A tiny animal called a bdelloid rotifer has amazed scientists. It was found in frozen ground in Siberia, Russia, and was alive after being frozen for 24,000 years! This small creature usually lives in water, but it can survive in very cold and dry places.
Scientists used special tools to get the rotifers from deep in the frozen ground. They found out how old the rotifers were by using a method called radiocarbon dating.
Once the rotifers were thawed, they started to move, eat, and even have babies! Even stranger, no male bdelloid rotifers have ever been seen. Females produce offspring without fertilization.
