Robot Footballers Slip and Stumble in First Game
get off to a rough start: to begin something with problems or difficulty
In Beijing, four teams of humanoid robots played football for the first time. The match happened this past Saturday, with three robots on each team. These robots were controlled by artificial intelligence, not by people.
The robots had trouble staying on their feet. Some fell over and couldn’t get back up. At least two were taken off the field because they couldn’t continue. The match got off to a rough start, but it still gave people a chance to see how far robot technology has come.
Cheng Hao, the CEO of Booster Robotics, said that games like this are a great way to test robots. “In the future, we may arrange for robots to play football with humans,” he said.
