Robotic Legs Are Helping Tourists Climb One of China’s Toughest Mountains
get the hang of it: to learn how to do something well after practicing it
Mount Tai is one of the toughest climbs in China. It has over 7,000 steps, and even experienced hikers struggle. Some people collapse, and others crawl to get down. But now, technology is making things easier.
A new AI-powered robotic exoskeleton is being tested on the mountain. These robotic legs help people climb by supporting their movement. A 29-year-old tourist said he felt like a puppet, with the machine doing all the work. But after a while, he got the hang of it and felt more comfortable.
The exoskeletons were tested by more than 200 people, including elderly hikers. Many said the robotic legs made the climb easier and let them enjoy the view. The company hopes to improve battery life before selling them to more people.
