This AI Video Looks Real but It’s All Fake
get up to speed: to learn or understand something new so you can do it well
All over the US, seniors are signing up for classes to learn about AI. This kind of education is urgent. According to a recent report, Americans over 60 lose more than $28 billion each year to scams. Many of these scams now use AI to sound more believable or create fake videos that seem real.
Filmmaker Travis Bible made a short video to help the elderly get up to speed on how advanced AI has become. The video shows fake news, phone calls, and social media posts that look and sound very real, but none of them are true. In one scene, a fake news reporter says Canada has declared war on the US. In another scene, a scared girl tells their grandparents not to send money, because the emergency is fake. Every scene was made with AI. “I made this video for my parents. And maybe yours too,” Bible said. “The internet already had a truth problem. In the wrong hands, AI video generators could throw gas on the fire.”
