One Cat, A Lifetime of Questions: Tesla’s Electric Awakening
gigantic: very, very big
Have you ever felt a spark of static electricity when touching someone? Nikola Tesla did at the age of three, and it changed his life. Born in 1856, Nikola Tesla was an amazing inventor. People call him the ‘Father of Electricity.’
As a child, Tesla had a cat named Macak. One cold day, he saw sparks when he touched the cat’s back. It looked like magic. This made him very curious about electricity. He thought, “What is this light? Why does it happen?”.
His father said, “It’s just electricity. Like in a storm.” But Tesla wanted to learn more. He thought, maybe nature is a gigantic cat. And maybe God is the one touching it to make sparks.
Tesla spent his life studying electricity. But even after many years, he still had questions. At the age of eighty-three, he wrote about how his childhood cat guided his life’s work. He said, “Day after day I have asked myself “what is electricity?” and found no answer. Eighty years have gone by since that time, and I still ask the same question, unable to answer it.”
