The Cutest Bear Cub Rescue You’ll See Today
go the extra mile: to do more than what is needed or expected
When campers found a black bear cub alone in California, it was clear the animal needed help. It was weak, underweight, and crying. The San Diego Humane Society took the cub to their wildlife center.
The cub is just two months old. To stop it from becoming too dependent on humans, staff members wear bear costumes. They even rub hay on themselves to hide their human scent. They think it’s important to go the extra mile so the cub will see them as other bears, not people. They hope this will help the cub return to the wild one day.
According to Wildlife Manager Autumn Welch, they weren’t sure if he would survive at first. But now, “he’s active, eating well and gaining weight steadily.”

Origin
This expression comes from the Bible. In ancient Rome, a soldier could force someone to carry his things for one mile. The Bible said to go two miles instead to be kind even when it is hard. Now, we use it to describe someone who puts in extra effort.
