Man fakes his death to teach his family a lesson. Did he go too far?
go too far: to do something that exceeds acceptable limits
Belgian man David Baerten wanted to teach his family a lesson, so he faked his death. He felt his family didn’t appreciate him. He said, “What I see in my family often hurts me. I never get invited to anything. Nobody sees me. We all grew apart. I felt unappreciated. That’s why I wanted to give them a life lesson and show them that you shouldn’t wait until someone is dead to meet up with them.”
David arrived at his funeral in a helicopter. A video shows his friends and family were shocked to see him. They greeted him with hugs, but not everyone was happy. Some people thought it was mean.
Did David go too far? He said he was sorry for all the people he hurt. He also said some family members didn’t come to the fake funeral, but they called him later. So, in a way, he felt his trick had worked.
