The Unique Sport Where Three Athletes Share One Pair of Shoes

Wa Shi was a noblewoman, warrior, and general of the Ming dynasty who was famous for fighting off pirates. She trained her soldiers using a unique method: board-shoe racing. This exercise helped them stay coordinated and united.
Today, this old training technique survives as a traditional sport. It appeared at the 12th National Traditional Games of Ethnic Minorities of China in Sanya.
In this sport, three people share one pair of very long wooden shoes. They run together, staying in sync as they move forward. Athletes must work closely as a team. Each athlete has an important role. One person sets the pace, another keeps the team’s timing, and the last focuses on leg coordination. They must not lose balance or slip, or they will fall.
