Outrage as Doctor Allows Teen Daughter to Perform Surgery
let go from a job: to lose one’s job because of a mistake or because the company no longer needs the worker
In a shocking story out of Austria, a 33-year-old man who suffered serious head injuries was operated on by a 13-year-old girl. She was not a medical prodigy. She was the daughter of the surgeon.
After a serious accident, the man was flown to Graz University Hospital. In the operating room, the doctor let his daughter take over. He handed her a surgical drill and let her drill through the man’s skull.
The patient had no idea this had happened. He only found out months later through the media and the police. He is still recovering and unable to work.
The doctor and another employee involved in the surgery have been let go by the hospital. The patient’s lawyer said he was treated like a “guinea pig” and had not even received an apology from the hospital. Investigations are still ongoing, and many are asking how this could have happened.
