Judge Recognizes Childhood Friend in Courtroom Drama
let someone down: to disappoint someone by not doing what you agreed to do or not meeting their expectations
When Arthur Booth stood in front of the judge, he didn’t recognize her, but she recognized him. He was her old childhood friend from middle school. Booth was facing charges of burglary. He broke down into tears when the judge said how sorry she was to see what had become of him. She told the court that she used to play football with him and he was the nicest kid in school. She wished him well and said she hoped he would go on to live a lawful life.
That was not the end of their reunion. After spending ten months in prison, the judge was waiting to welcome him back to society. She advised her old friend to stay away from drugs, get a job, and take care of his family. She said, “Don’t let us down.”
That was ten years ago, and he hasn’t let his friend down. Booth is now a successful manager at a pharmaceutical company and has stayed in contact with his old friend, the judge.
