Man Sells Doorstop From Space For $75,000
little did he/she know: he/she did not know something (used in situations where the person takes an action without knowing some unexpected information)
For three decades, a 10 kg rock served a simple purpose in David Mazurek’s home: keeping a barn door open. Little did he know, this ordinary-looking rock was a rare find from outer space. When Mona Sirbescu, a geologist at Central Michigan University, examined the rock, she realized its true worth. It was a valuable iron-nickel meteorite.
The rock fell from the sky in the 1930s. The previous owner of David’s farm found it warm in a crater and used it as a doorstop. When David bought the farm, he inherited the rock. Years later, he decided to get his doorstop evaluated.
His discovery led to a surprising payday of $75,000. He generously donated 10% of the sale to Sirbescu’s department at Central Michigan University.
