What a 72-Year-Old Astronaut Did When Called a Liar
lose one’s temper: to suddenly become very angry
In May 2026, four NASA astronauts walked through the halls of the US Capitol building. A month earlier, they had returned from a 10-day mission around the Moon. Suddenly, a man with a camera blocked their path. “Stop lying! Stop acting!” he yelled. “You never went to space! I see through your lies!” The astronauts stayed calm. They kept walking. Pilot Victor Glover gave the man a small wave and a soft “Take care.” None of them lost their temper. The video went viral within hours.
One older astronaut handled things very differently. Buzz Aldrin was the second person ever to walk on the Moon, during the Apollo 11 mission in 1969. In 2002, conspiracy theorist Bart Sibrel confronted Aldrin outside a Beverly Hills hotel. Sibrel pushed a Bible in his face and demanded that the elderly astronaut swear he really walked on the Moon. Then Sibrel called him a “coward and a liar.” Aldrin, 72 years old at the time, punched the man in the jaw. Sibrel tried to take Aldrin to court, but the judge threw the case out and called Sibrel the instigator. Most people cheered for Aldrin.
The Moon hoax belief still refuses to die. In 1999, only 6% of Americans thought the Moon landings were faked. By 2021, that number had grown to 12%. Younger Americans are more likely to believe it than their grandparents. Twelve men have walked on the Moon and returned to tell the story. For some people, no proof will ever be enough.
