This Couple Lives on a Floating Island They Built Themselves
make do with something: to use what is available instead of what is ideal
Wayne Adams and Catherine King didn’t have the funds to buy a house or land, so they built one on the water. Their home, called Freedom Cove, is a floating island off the coast of Canada. Since buying a home wasn’t an option, they built everything themselves. For materials, they made do with whatever they could find, including driftwood and wood from an old fish farm.
Their home has a house, a dance floor, a lighthouse, and four greenhouses. They try to be as self-sufficient as possible. They grow their own food and use mostly solar power.
Wayne and Catherine live in harmony with nature. Life is not always easy. When storms come, their home moves with the waves, and they repair any damage. The couple says that living so close to nature is a source of inspiration and inner peace.
