Dine in the Dark: Experience a World of New Flavors
mess with: to cause confusion or interfere with something
Imagine eating a delicious meal in complete darkness. This is the unique experience offered by some restaurants around the world. When you eat in the dark, your other senses, like taste, smell, and touch, become more important. This dining experience makes you focus more on the flavors of the food without being distracted by its appearance.
The Blind Cow in Zurich, the first restaurant of its kind, was opened in 1999 by a blind clergyman. The staff serving the food are blind or have limited vision, so they can easily work in the dark. But for sighted guests, it’s a whole new world.
Normally, our eyes help us experience our food. But without seeing, we rely more on taste, smell, and touch to enjoy our food. Surprisingly, people can eat more food in the dark because they don’t see how much they’re consuming.
Spending time in complete darkness can also mess with our sense of time. Guests at the Blind Cow felt like they had been there for only 45 minutes, but two hours had actually passed.
This unique dining experience challenges our perception of the world. Are you ready to try eating in the dark?
