David García cooks pizza on the side of a volcano! Pacaya, in Guatemala, last erupted in 2021, but it’s still active.
Tourists must walk up the volcano to try his unique pizza. Watching García use lava to cook his pizzas is part of the experience. He protects himself from the extreme heat with thick gloves and goggles. One tourist said, “Maybe it wasn’t the safest solo travel experience, but the pizza tasted great.” García checks the volcano activity every day to make sure it is safe. Cooking on a volcano is exciting, but it’s not for the faint of heart. Once, he had to close down for 15 days because of dangerous gases.
Experts warn that volcano tourism can be risky. García agrees that nature is unpredictable. “You don’t know what’s going to happen next,” he said.
