Junk Collector Finds Hidden Picasso Worth €6 Million

An Italian family discovered that a painting in their living room was a real Picasso worth €6 million. A junk collector named Luigi found the painting in a cellar in 1962. His son Andrea said, “He didn’t have a clue who Picasso was. He wasn’t a very cultured person.” Luigi gave the painting to his wife, who called it “horrible.” Though they considered throwing it away many times, it hung in their home in a cheap frame for decades.
Andrea became curious about the painting after reading an art encyclopedia given to him by his aunt. He noticed the signature looked like Picasso’s. After many years, experts examined the painting. They confirmed it is an original work by Pablo Picasso. It is believed to be a painting of the artist’s mistress Dora Maar. An expert named Cinzia Altieri said, “There is no doubt that the signature is his.”
