Baby Elephant Rescue
on one’s own: to do something without any help from others
In South Africa’s Ado Elephant National Park, a baby elephant needed urgent help. The little one had fallen into a watering hole and was struggling to get out. His family tried to help, but they couldn’t rescue him on their own.
The rangers first tried using heavy machinery to dig an escape path for the baby. But this made the adult elephants nervous, and they began to circle the baby closely. So, the rangers came up with a new plan. They used their trucks to move the adult elephants away so they could safely reach the baby. Then, with great care, they lifted the baby out and returned him to his mother. The whole herd turned to the rangers, trumpeting to show their gratitude.
