Americans Losing Trust In Democracy
on the heels of: soon after something has happened
A new poll shows that many Americans have lost trust in democracy. They even think using violence against political enemies is okay. This surprising news comes from a poll done by the University of Virginia’s Center for Politics.
Here’s what they found from questioning 2,008 voters:
31% of Republicans and 24% of Democrats believe democracy isn’t working anymore. They think another system might be better.
38% of Republicans and 41% of Democrats think the other side is “so extreme in what they want that it is acceptable to use violence to stop them from achieving their goals.”
These results come on the heels of a Pew Research poll that showed only 16% of Americans trust the government to do the right thing, at least most of the time.
