This Pepper Is Hotter Than Police Pepper Spray
on the horizon: coming soon; in the near future
Ed Currie, a pepper expert from South Carolina, has created Pepper X, the hottest pepper in the world.
Pepper X measures 2.69 million Scoville Heat Units. To compare, a regular jalapeno pepper has about 5,000 units. Even police pepper spray is not as hot as Pepper X. Currie said that when he first ate the pepper, he felt the heat for three-and-a-half hours and had painful stomach cramps.
Currie’s company makes a variety of hot pepper sauces. He also works with medical researchers to explore the health benefits of capsaicin, the chemical that gives peppers their heat.
Currie believes in the positive effects of the endorphin rush following the burn. He advises enthusiasts to gradually build their tolerance before trying the hottest peppers. With a mischievous smile, Currie hints that even hotter peppers may be on the horizon.
