How Drones Are Helping Stop Dangerous Subway Surfing
pay the price: to experience negative consequences because of a choice or action
In New York City, subway surfing is a risky activity where young people climb on top of moving trains. This dangerous trend has led to several deaths and injuries. Despite the risks, many continue to subway surf, and tragically, some have paid the price with their lives. Six young people have lost their lives this year alone.
To stop these tragic accidents, the New York City police now use drones to monitor the trains. When subway surfers are seen, police officers quickly remove them. Mayor Eric Adams claims the drones have saved 114 lives so far.
The mayor says it’s sad that these young people feel pressure to do such risky things for social media. He reminds them that no “like” or video is worth their future.
