This Man Let Deadly Snakes Bite Him Over 200 Times
put oneself through something: to do something difficult or unpleasant because you think it is important or necessary
Most people run from snakes, but not Tim Friede. For over 18 years, this Wisconsin man allowed some of the world’s most dangerous snakes to bite him. He also injected himself with venom more than 650 times. Why would someone put themselves through this? Because he wants to save lives.
Tim is not a doctor or a scientist, but he now works with experts who study his blood. They found special antibodies inside him that can fight snake venom. With Tim’s help, scientists have created a treatment that protects against the venom of 19 different snake species.
Tim’s experiments have been painful and dangerous, but he doesn’t have a death wish. He said, “I want to survive,” and his extreme effort may help thousands of others do the same.
