The Company That Quits Your Job for You
put up with: to accept or tolerate something unpleasant or difficult without complaining too much
In Japan, quitting a job is harder than you might think. Workers sometimes feel pressured to stay with one employer for life, even when the work conditions are terrible. Some workers are even harassed when they try to leave. They put up with stressful jobs because they’re afraid to quit.
A company called Momuri offers a solution. Their name translates to ‘I can’t do this anymore.’ For about $150, they will talk to your boss and quit for you. Momuri is one of many new companies that are helping people quit their jobs. They are well informed on worker’s rights and won’t put up with bullying bosses.
Shiori Kawamata, a manager of Momuri, says she hopes one day there won’t be a need for companies like hers. She told CNN, “We think it’s best if people can tell their bosses themselves, but hearing the horror stories of our clients, I don’t think that our business will disappear anytime soon.”
