Subaru’s New Airbag Protects More Than Drivers
rewrite the rules: to change the usual way something is done
Airbags have been common since the 1980s. While car companies have been making incremental improvements for years, Subaru is rewriting the rules on this life-saving technology.
Airbags normally protect a car’s driver or passengers, but Subaru’s new airbag isn’t so selfish. It is not even inside the car. It is on the outside, ready to save pedestrians and cyclists during accidents. On impact, a large U-shaped airbag pops out from where the hood and windshield meet.
With this new invention, Subaru is protecting everyone who shares the road, not just the people inside the car.
