Millions of Humanoid and Animal Robots in Our Future
roll out: to introduce or launch something new, especially a product or service
AI company CEO David Holz recently predicted 100 billion humanoid robots will be produced in the next 20 years. Billionaire Elon Musk agreed on social media. He said, “Probably something like that, provided the foundations of civilization are stable.”
In 2021, Tesla made a robot called Optimus. Musk hopes to roll out millions of these robots, each costing $20,000. Right now, the robot can’t do many tasks, but Musk thinks the humanoid robot will be amazing in 5 to 10 years.
But humanoid robots won’t be alone. In recent news, scientists have created a flying robot bee and a swimming robot shark. The BionicBee is a tiny robot made by a US company. It weighs 34 grams and has special parts that help it move its wings and fly in different directions. Meanwhile, a Chinese company has created a robot shark. It is 16 feet long and looks and moves underwater like a real whale shark.
Both of these companies say their robots will be used to help us learn more about nature and technology. However, it’s not difficult to imagine a troubling future where these animal robots are used for surveillance or war.
