Innocent Man Forgives Policeman Who Sent Him to Prison
run into someone: to meet someone by chance
Andrew Collins was a police officer who loved making drug arrests, but he didn’t care if the people he caught were guilty or not. In 2006, he framed Jameel McGee, an innocent man. Jameel was sentenced to ten years in prison.
In prison, Jameel was filled with anger and thoughts of revenge. But reading the Bible helped him find peace, and he decided to forgive Andrew. In 2009, Andrew’s corrupt actions were discovered. Jameel was released, and Andrew was sent to prison for 18 months.
In 2011, the two men ran into each other at a church event. Jameel felt all the anger return and confronted Andrew. He thought about killing him but then remembered his choice to forgive. He walked away, thinking he would never see Andrew again. Amazingly, in 2015, they ran into each other again when Jameel graduated from a job program. The program assigned all graduates a mentor. By chance, they gave him Andrew as a mentor. Working closely, the two men formed a deep friendship. Andrew says, “Jameel has taught me so much.” And Jameel now says, “I’m closer to Andrew than most of my family members.”
Now, Andrew and Jameel travel across the country, sharing their story of forgiveness and showing that even the darkest experiences can lead to personal growth.
