Japan’s Robot Wolf Protects People from Bears
scare off: to make someone leave by frightening them
In Japan, bear attacks are rising. Monster Wolf is the solution. This robot looks like a wolf with red eyes and sharp teeth. It can make loud sounds to scare off bears when the robot senses movement.
The idea for the Monster Wolf came from a real wolf that used to live in Japan over 100 years ago. Unfortunately, these wolves were hunted until none were left.
The town of Takikawa was the first to use the Monster Wolf in 2016. Since then, its popularity has grown, especially with the rise in bear attacks. Recently, 53 people were injured in just four months.
