By The Year 2050 There Might Be More Plastic Than Fish In The Ocean
stand out: to be very noticeable or to be much better than other similar things or people
Imagine a world where our bags and packaging come from the sea and can return to nature without harming it. By the year 2050, it is projected that the oceans will contain more plastic than fish. This fact motivated Lucy Hughes to turn fish waste into a new bioplastic.
Her creation is called MarinaTex. It’s made from fish skin and scales. It’s strong like conventional plastic, but it can biodegrade in 4 to 6 weeks. Lucy’s idea stands out because it helps solve two big problems: too much single-use plastic and fish waste.
Marinatex won the prestigious James Dyson in 2019 and is looking for partners to bring this material to the market.
