At a zoo in Belgium, orangutans and otters have become best friends! The zoo introduced a family of otters into the river that runs through the orangutan home. The two different animals quickly struck up a friendship and began playing together.
Orangutans share 97% of their DNA with humans and need mental and physical stimulation. Letting them play with otters was a great idea. “It makes life more fun and interesting for both animal species,” said Mathieu Goedefroy, a spokesperson for the zoo.
Father and son orangutans, Ujian and Berani, enjoy spending time with the otters. They play games together and share space happily.
