The Cheapest Humanoid Robot Punches Like a Pro
throw hands: (slang) to start a physical fight using your fists
Unitree Robotics recently introduced the R1, a robot that can run, do cartwheels, and even throw hands. But whether this robot can really fight or do anything useful is still unclear.
The R1 is lighter than most humanoid robots, weighing around 55 pounds. It’s also much cheaper than the competition. Unitree sells its more advanced H1 robot for $90,000. Elon Musk recently announced that the upcoming Tesla robot might be priced under $20,000. The affordable R1 is selling for the low price of just $5,900. Still, not everyone is impressed. Some people questioned whether it can vacuum or cook instead of showing off flips and punches.
While the R1 has not actually fought anyone, the Unitree H1 robot did recently go beserk. During a factory test, it lost control, causing engineers to quickly retreat.
