Octopus Outsmarts Maze To Win Freedom
watch over: to protect and take care of someone or something
Science Youtuber Mark Rober shared an amazing video about Sashimi, his pet octopus. Rober adopted Sashimi to explore octopus intelligence.
Amazed by Sashimi’s intelligence, he made an underwater maze to test her problem-solving skills. This maze also served a more important purpose. He wanted to free Sashimi, but first, he had to make sure she could survive in the wild.
Sashimi’s journey through the maze showed her creative intelligence. After successfully completing it, she proved she could survive in the ocean. At the end of the video, Rober frees his pet. He describes it as bittersweet. While she will have a chance to be free and reproduce, she won’t live long. Rober says, “After laying her eggs, a female will continually watch over and protect them to the point that she stops eating and dies.”
