£90,000 Key Could Have Saved the Titanic
A key that could have saved the lives of over 1,500 people was forgotten by a sailor named David Blair. This key opened a locker containing binoculars on the Titanic. According to one of the surviving crew, the binoculars could have helped spot the iceberg, preventing the disaster.
Blair was supposed to have been working on the Titanic. A last-minute change maybe saved his life. Unfortunately, the absent-minded sailor forgot to give the key to his replacement.
In 2009, the small key that could have changed history was sold at an auction for £90,000. A postcard from Blair was also sold. He wrote: “This is a magnificent ship, I feel very disappointed I am not to make her first voyage.”
