The Real-Life Octopus Garden Under the Sea!
catchy: something that easily attracts attention or is easy to remember, often because it’s pleasant or interesting
“Octopus’s Garden” isn’t just a catchy song by the Beatles. Researchers have found a place deep under the sea where 20,000 octopuses live 80 miles from Monterey, California.
Why are so many octopuses there? It’s near a deep-sea volcano! This place is unique because it’s warm, unlike most deep ocean places. Normally, octopus eggs take many years to hatch in cold water. But in this garden, it takes less than two years! The warmth attracts octopus mothers and helps their eggs grow faster. While it might be better called an Octopus’s nursery, researchers have named this special place the Octopus’s Garden.
