Voyage to the Sun on Humanity’s Fastest Creation
mind-boggling: incredibly astonishing or unbelievable
The fastest plane in the world is the X-15. It can travel over 7,000 kilometers per hour, but it is far from the fastest thing made by humans. On September 27, the Parker Solar Probe reached a mind-boggling speed of 635,266 kilometers per hour. That’s faster than anything we’ve ever created! To give you an idea, it could go around our planet 15 times in just one hour. Imagine flying from New York to Los Angeles in just over 20 seconds – that’s how fast it is!
But speed isn’t the only incredible thing about this mission. The probe got closer to the Sun than any human-made object – only 7.26 million kilometers away from the Sun’s surface.
The Parker Solar Probe has an advanced heat shield to protect it on it’s mission to learn about the Sun and the origins of solar wind.
