CEO of AI Giant is Prepping for AI Attack
prepper: someone who collects food, supplies and learns skills to be ready for a big disaster or emergency
Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI is a prepper. What is he preparing for? He fears nuclear war, pandemics, and AI. Yes, you heard that right. The CEO of the company that makes ChatGPT is worried about AI attacking humanity. Back in 2016, the New Yorker reported on his plans for survival. He said, “I have guns, gold, potassium iodide, antibiotics, batteries, water, gas masks from the Israeli Defense Force, and a big patch of land in Big Sur I can fly to.”
This Tuesday, Altman and other leaders in the AI space signed a one-sentence warning. It said that reducing the “risk of extinction from AI should be a global priority.”
This is after a call for a 6-month moratorium on AI that Altman did not agree with. But that doesn’t mean this prepper is not worried. He recently called for government regulation of AI at a White House meeting.
