Saudi Arabia’s Futuristic Straight-Line City
underway: has started and is currently happening
Saudi Arabia is building a revolutionary new city called “The Line.” It is a straight line 170 km long, 500 meters tall, and only 200 meters wide, cutting across the desert. It will boast mirrored walls and be home to 9 million people. And guess what? No cars! A train will connect the whole city, taking only 20 minutes end-to-end.
Yet, some people say a circular design would be more efficient. If the city were a circle, people would be much closer to each other, promoting a closer community. Additionally, the dependence on a single train line in The Line could be a big problem if it were to break.
But it’s too late for design changes. Construction of The Line is underway. Watch the video below to see Saudi Arabia’s unique vision for this futuristic city.
